The Meaning of Rescue
- Author Unknown
Now that I'm home, bathed, settled and fed.
All nicely tucked in my warm new bed,
I'd like to open my baggage, lest I forget,
There is so much to carry - So much to regret
Hmmm... Yes, there it is, right on the top,
Let's unpack Loneliness, Heartache and Loss,
And there by my perch hides Fear and Shame.
As I look on these things I tried so hard to leave -
I still have to unpack my baggage called Pain.
I loved them, the others, the ones who left me,
But I wasn't good enough - for they didn't want me.
Will you add to my baggage? Will you help me unpack?
Or will you just look at my things - And take me right back?
Do you have the time to help me unpack?
To put away my baggage, to never repack?
I pray that you do - I'm so tired you see,
But I do come with baggage - Will you still want me?

Please sign this Petition:
Stop Killing Wild Burros in the Big Bend region of West
Texas--
Less than 300 wild burros remain but Texas Parks and Wildlife
intends to kill these nationally protected burros to the "maximum
extent possible". The national protections do not extend to this
State-held land. What Texas is doing may be legal, but we think its
an atrocity.

Three
mini donkeys for adoption. Must go to a home together. One gelding
and two jennies. All are big babies (of course) and love attention
more than anything. They are smart and adorable.
They require
a dry lot. No grassy pastures! Dorothy, Brighty, and Walter are
all very easy to deal with and love people. They all get along very
well and stay right with each other. Brighty is about 6 years old,
Dorothy is 3, and Walter is a year and a half. He was gelded when
he was a few months old and has a very laid back personality. They
all love to be petted and handled. Again, they must all go to a
home together. I am only parting with them because I do not have
the time to give them the attention they want. But they're fine to
stay here if the right situation does not come along. I am
attaching plenty of photos. Adoption contract required: $1000 for
all three. Home pre-approval required. If inquiring about them,
please include as much information as possible in your initial
email. All are current on coggins, vaccines, and deworming. Crystal

Dom
is a handsome spotted donkey. He is about 14 years
old and gelded. He is sweet but untrusting to new
humans. He needs a loving patient home. He is pretty
good for the farrier. He is not easy to catch but
comes for food in a stall. Just taking your time
with him is best. He loves his butt rubbed but he is
afraid if you touch his ears. He is about 13 hands
and is not aggressive to other horses.

Marita
Date of Birth: unknown - about 3 years old
Coat Color: Gray-Dun - Rose Dun - 34"
This jenny fits in well with other donkeys and is ok as long as you
don't want to touch her. She accepts the other foals just fine. She
does take a treat from your hand and likes her grain. If you try and
corner her/catch her she is terrified and tries to defend herself.
We truly believe that she has been abused and has had some very
negative experiences - we can't touch her back end or attempt to
pick up her feet, yet. We are working on desensitizing her and to
let her know that we will not mistreat her. We've had other donkeys
that were worse than her and know that she will improve with time as
long as there is no more abuse. I can see it in her face when I feed
and interact with the others that she really wants to be a part of
it all and she does come very close to me! She too, has to go to a
very loving home that cares about her!
This jenny has an overbite and should not be bred with - the reason
why we purchased her so that she would not be continued to be bred
with. Therefore we will only be placing her into a non-breeding
home. She is considered a rescue.
If you feel that you can give this jenny a good home please contact
us at e-mail: donkeys@littlefriendsranch.com or littlefriend@dishmail.net
or call: 270-753-9270

Bandit
Date of Birth: unknown - I'm guessing mid February by comparing him
to my other foals
Birth Height: unknown
Foal Coat Color: Gray-Dun - NLP
Sire: untraced
Dam: gray-dun/rose-dun- 34" - 3 years old
This is a cute little jack! With his dark nose and dark eye rings he
looks like a little Bandit. He is still a little bit shy but he does
enjoy his neck rubs once he decides that I am not so bad. He came to
us with already very long hooves and he has just grown new fur
around his ankles where he had apparently lost all of his fur. He
must have lived in a mud lot. We purchased his mother and him to
ensure that she would not be continued to be bred. She should have
never been bred in the first place. She has an overbite! This little
guy's bite is ok but since he is out of a mom with an off bite he
will only be sold as a pet without papers of course. He can later be
registered as a gelding if the new owner decides to do that. He
deserves a good and loving home and has a lifetime of love to give!
Of course as with all of our donkeys he will need to go to a home
where he'll have a companion! He can also be placed with his mother
into a non-breeding home.
Bandit has improved so much in just a short time - he now comes up
voluntarily for his neck rubs and really enjoys them. He is still a
little afraid when there are strangers around since his mother gets
more nervous then as well.
If you feel that you can give this jenny a good home please contact
us at e-mail: donkeys@littlefriendsranch.com or littlefriend@dishmail.net
or call: 270-753-9270

PoDonk-Pure Thoughts, Inc
This is one of the little guys rescued during the Home for the
Holidays rescue mission over the Thanksgiving Holiday. He looks like
a cross between a donkey and a pony... hence the name PoDonk. Not
quite sure n the riding, he did not take too well to it today but we
will try again. He is a sweetheart and ready to find his "forever
home" His adoption fee is $350. If you are interested in PoDonk give
Brad a call at 561-951-2108.

Jenks
- 1 1/2 y/o mini donkey gelding. Many of you have met
Jenks. He's boarded here and his owner has moved to another
state and can no longer keep him. He is looking for a new
home. He needs to live with at least one other mini donkey and
needs a home where he'll get lots of attention. He's a people
person. :) Jenks is gelded of course and current on
everything. He is a small donkey, even for a mini. Of course,
mini donkeys are NOT livestock guards. He needs a home where
he'll be a spoiled pet, which is what he is now. He does have
an adoption fee. He's the spotted donkey in the photos.

If you know of anyone
who would like to adopt a donkey, if they can contact me with what
they are looking for (gender, age, size, bred, etc.) I can be on the
lookout.
They will have an adoption fee that varies depending on what I have
to spend to get them at auction and on their vet care/deworming/Coggins
thereafter. I am an umbrella 501(c)3 organization. All adoption
fees cover the costs I put into the animals.
My adoption fees are as follows:
Ungelded jacks - $75-$150
Gelded jacks - $300 (if I have to have them gelded....if they come
already gelded they are cheaper.)
Jennys - $250 and up. (they sell a bit higher at auction, so the
adoption fee reflects that.)
Mules - adoption fees vary greatly and I probably won't pick up a
mule unless someone is specifically looking for one. If so, please
let me know!
Most of the donkeys I get at auction are 100% unhandled and
unsocialized. By the time I adopt them out, they are people
friendly and halter trained. Of course, this isn't always possible
and some end up friendlier than others, but it is always my goal.
Adoptions include Coggins and deworming and of course their ground
manners training. Most of what I find at the auction is ungelded
jacks, and the occasional pregnant jenny. Every so often an un-bred
jenny comes through. This auction is nasty and the animals are
usually coming from bad homes where they were either neglected
altogether or abused. They usually come around really nicely with
TLC and gentle handling.
I am happy to look for a certain kind of donkey or mule if someone
is looking for something specific. Just let me know!
The more long ears I can get out of that
awful place, the better!
