Welcome to Shadow Ridge Donkeys,
Peachland, North Carolina. Peachland is located in the rolling hills of Piedmont Region of North Carolina, approximately an hour's driving time from both Charlotte and Rockingham.
husband, Chris Kelley, and I relocated to Peachland from Connecticut in May 2003. This was not an easy journey, but we made the trip, the two of us and in tow was our two white labs, and our cat. That 100 hour long (don't ask) trip and experience was well worth the adventure and memories. Oh, our horses, well they had it much easier; they were being transported separately in comfort.
I've always had a love for animals even as a child, especially horses. I had my very first horse, a gelding when I was 12 years old. . He certainly taught me a lot, especially what to do and what not to do! Now here we are again, 35 years later, and I still have the love for horses and have the opportunity to make something of it.. This was our new beginning.
I began with one horse, bought another, then another, and before we knew it, we have the beginning of a mini-farm. This is when we decided to move south, here to North Carolina. One day in June as we drove by a farm with several horses and a miniature donkey, I knew from that moment on what I wanted to do; raise registered miniature donkeys. We acquired a jenny in foal and a jack. Our first foal was born on December 2, 2003.
Our place, Shadow Ridge, got its name from a sick little hackney pony. Its name was Shadow, a 20 plus year old that had been diagnosed with Cushing's disease. She was very sick when we bought her, but today she runs circles around the baby. We dedicated our farm's name to the sick pony that has brought inspiration and life to us both.
Shadow Ridge evolved out of a deep love for everything and everyone equine. In the months and years to come I plan to offer the horse community some wonderful products. Whether your discipline is
Western or you are a donkey or mule lover, we'll have something for you. This site has been designed for you in mind and your support and input is the most important part of this site. Please do not hesitate to email me with advice, tips, and issues good or bad; we welcome your ideas and comments.
We hope to make many friends and be a friend to many.
Thank you from the Shadow Ridge Donkeys family.
